The Greatest Beer Run Ever

Following his Oscar win for Green Book, Director/Writer Peter Farrelly brings us The Greatest Beer Run Ever. Based on a true story and memoir of Chickie Donohue who in 1967 decides to bring beer to all of his childhood friends in the Army while they are at war in Vietnam. Yes, you read that right, this is a true story.
It's a film that is well-directed, with great set pieces and production design but many flaws come with it. Everyone's NY accent is overdone and gets pretty annoying quickly. With a runtime that is a bit over 2 hours the film drags and could cut out 20-25 mins to keep the story flowing.
With that said, you can't help but root for Chickie as he just wants to surprise his war friends and thank them for what they are doing with a beer. The film does a pretty decent job balancing comedy and drama with vital elements of war and the chaos and destruction it brings while at the same time it has a message that feels very relevant today.
